in his own words...
If life is what you make of it, I have made a pretty decent sitcom. The main character (me), is a Ted Mosby type – nerdy but cute with a good job, decent apartment, and a fantastic group of friends. He started small town but now lives in the big(gish) city. This irrepressible character walks the line between goofy and charming, responsibility and frivolity. He’s a man who’s traveled but prefers the comforts of home. He looks good in a tux and can decorate a home but knows way too much about Star Wars. He’s active outdoors (running, biking, swimming, rock climbing) and plays piano. In one particularly humorous episode early on, he turned down a date with a woman by telling her he had to put a hat rack together (in seasons one through twenty six, he was so very closeted!) In a later, he spent a day traveling through post-Ceaucescu Romania trying to reach Dracula’s castle, only to realize he could spend five minutes there before he had to head back to the hotel. He’s passionate about donuts, American Ninja Warrior, and tossing the frisbee around. This sitcom isn’t about the search for love, but finding his lobster forms part of the main character’s journey. The love interest will be a Will Truman-esque 30/40-something, sexy in his own way, who owns at least one suit, has a killer smile, and cares about people. He doesn’t necessarily have a great body, but he is active and will encourage the main character to lay off the donuts and occasionally eat a salad. He can converse on a number of topics and has a sensitive side. He knows that he’s not perfect… and that neither am I. Naturally, there’s a crowd of misfit friends who round out the picture and remind us life’s problems are best dealt with through laughter, a cup of coffee (in my case, vanilla tea), and the occasional hijink. This has been my life to date; the spinoff where the two characters meet and live out their lives will be spectacular (sixty seasons and a movie?).
