in her own words...

Of all the possible characteristics with which I could begin a description of myself I'd have to say that the one that outshines all the others is my capacity to love - not just in a romantic sense, but in an all-encompassing, the-world-is-my-family kind of way. Of course that sounds rather ridiculous, if not downright insane, but the older I get the more firmly I feel a deep connection to all of humanity, in all of its frailty, failings, wonders and gifts. I am also deeply sensitive in general, which means that I feel things on a level that might be alarming for a person, but not for the right one. Neither a drama queen nor self-indulgent, I am just one of those odd empathic souls who has to guard against burn-out from others' pain (hence my limited newspaper reading!). I had a good education, but really learned the most from raising my 2 daughters as a single mother...they are grown now and living abroad and while I miss them dearly I am filled with delight that they are pursuing their dreams and loves. Now about that opening tagline- the bit about the one wild and precious life - it's from a favorite poem by Mary Oliver and if you look it up and read it you will have an inkling into more of me. I adore nature in all its beauty, I love live music (mostly folk - Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen types- Celtic, rock, classical, and jazz that I can understand - the old standards, and Broadway songs from the heyday of Rogers and Hammerstein). If you are still reading this far then I can also add that I am hoping to find my best friend - someone who's a cross between (wait for it...) Thomas Merton/Martin Shaw/Leonard Cohen - yeah, the first one is a deceased Trappist monk but his worldview and poetry was incredible- obviously I don't want someone who is in the clergy, but someone who left it but still has the lingering appreciation for the old music and no time for the pope would be interesting! And like me, be passionate physically and genuinely warm and kindhearted.
