Her 18 interests
in her own words...
This, it must be said, is bizarre. Let's start here: I am random. Tho I am kind and devoted, I worry that sometimes I value ideas more than people. The best fit, I find, are people with ideas. Ideally, we hit upon a conversation that intrigues and delights and inspires us. Perhaps, it unwinds over months and years. Dinner would be a fine place to begin. As Julia put it: "The dinner hour is a sacred, happy time when everyone should be together and relaxed." I am happy and relaxed when I am cooking. And I'm a big fan of that 'together' part, too. Recently, I've discovered kale and an Italian winter vegetable stew called ribollita. I love blueberries (tho I avoided them throughout childhood because of that horror scene in 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' with the greedy boy and the blueberry gum and the bloat that followed). Brunch is good: a quiche or ricotta pancakes and mimosas. I think most meals would be improved by plopping a poached egg on top. Except for sushi (perfect all by itself). For dessert, it is a supreme pleasure to eat chocolate ice cream in the tub. Then there's the rest of life: Every day I go to work, I feel like I've won Powerball. The prize is just being there. My house is the ultimate expression of my passions and vulnerabilities. I read newspapers. Can you garden? I'm a failure. I prefer an active life, tho I like to say I'd run only if my hair were on fire. I can walk a very long way. In fact, I finished my second marathon in October and took in the magnificent vistas of Mount Desert Island, Maine. When I get to Bikram yoga regularly, I'm inspired to paint in oils. When I stop the yoga, my imagination for painting dries up. I do not feel strongly about politics or religion, but I am a freak for the First Amendment. As for politics, well, I see folly in both directions. But I also believe you cannot blame anyone for trying. So I cheer the cause and the right of you and you and you and yes, you, to
