in his own words...

I think I'll unpack some adjectives for you . . . Let's start with "curious," because I love learning about almost anything. Although I'm more of an abstract than concrete thinker, I'd rather learn about the origins of things (history, evolution, culture) than tackle metaphysics. Lately I've been studying French and the French, trying to become a better soccer watcher, and catching up with Malcolm Gladwell. However, it's not all academic, as I also enjoy learning about people and finding ways to cultivate the relationships that are important to me. Adjective #2 is, if you will indulge me, "fiendishly music-obsessed." I'm constantly making mixes and "best of" cd's for friends, & I DJ whenever I get the chance (including the semi-welcome co-opting of friends' audio systems). Lately I've been listening to Telekinesis, Film School, & Akron/Family and making anthologies of the Walkmen, Nina Nastasia, Cheap Trick, and Fleetwood Mac. Want more adjectives? How about gentle, snarky, compassionate, competitive, frank, patient, fair, and, er, INFP (but sometimes T). I meet a lot of people who are surprised to learn that I'm fairly introverted, and I've had few dates where the conversation lags. As for what I'm looking for in a woman . . . Intelligence is very high on my list of favorite qualities, along with open-mindedness and intellectual curiosity. A big heart and emotional honesty and openness are all preferred. Basic stuff, really -- smart, good, fun. Of course, we all know you can't pick a partner on paper, and intangibles usually trump checklists. If it looks like our je ne sais quois might match as well as our "paper," I say we meet for a drink to find out for sure. One more thing -- I'm a Meyers-Briggs junkie, so I've been trying to figure out if the Chemistry types match up to M-B. My best guess is that Negotiator = NP, Builder = SP, Explorer = NJ, & Director = SJ. If you have any thoughts on this I'd be happy to hear them!
